Chester is located on the Illinois Great River Road which is part of the National Scenic Byway. The display will include a large map of the Great River Road as it follows the Mississippi River in this area. Other general information of interest to travelers about sites, events and services along the Great River Road will be included in the display.

Some of the funding for the interior informational and entertaining displays was awarded through a grant from the National Scenic Byway Program which is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration. The Great River Road stretches for 550 miles along the western border of Illinois and offers majestic views of the Mississippi river and river bluffs. Travelers along the Great River Road can enjoy many activities including sightseeing, nature, wildlife, historic sites, water sports, antiques and shopping.

The City of Chester is pleased to have been awarded the grant from the National Scenic Byway Program. The Great River Road display will provide information for visitors and spotlight local attractions located on this historic route.
