IHSA Girls Class 1A track: Local athletes qualify for state

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Perry County&#39;s two high schools will advance athletes to the Illinois High School Associatiion (IHSA) Class 1A Girls State Track and Field meet following solid showings in last Friday&#39;s 17-team sectional at Sparta.

For the first time in several years, Du Quoin will send a competitor to the state prelims as freshman Kiyanna Dejear sprinted to second place efforts in the 100 (12.9) and 200 dashes (26.8).

Pinckneyville sends senior Samantha Schneider in the 400 meters (second place, 64.6) and three relay squads. The Lady Panthers were

runner-up in the 4x100 (52.9) and 4x200 (1:50.3) with the 4x400 squad third in 4:16.5, equalling the state qualifying standard.

State preliminaries are Thursday at O&#39;Brien Field in Charleston.

As ranked by the IHSA according to sectional performances, Pinckneyville is ranked out of the top 30 in the 4x100, 4x200 and 4x400 relays. Dejear had the 24th best 100 and 200 times with Schenider ranked out of the top 40 among 400 qualifiers.
