Sparta appropriates $7.7 million

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The Sparta City Board of Commissioners' agenda was unusually light Monday but included passage of their annual appropriations budget resolution.

Appropriations for the new fiscal year total $7, 766,750. That figure is down from the previous year due to costs associated with the new water plant construction.

The board also passed a resolution for maintaining streets and highways in accordance with Illinois Highway Codes. The motion authorizes oil and chipping and road improvements on the city's streets.

The commissioners' next meeting will be at 7 p.m. May 24, 2010.
