Wednesday's boys prep track: Smith, Hoffman, Pyatt post career bests

With Aaron Smith and Karson Hoffman recording first place efforts, Du Quoin High School&#39;s boys track team posted a solid finish Wednesday at the 43rd annual Chuck Oyler Invitational at Benton Middle School.

The Indians (78) were well behind champion Sparta&#39;s 138 points and a close second (86) to Nashville. Pinckneyville (39) was sixth among the 15squads entered.

Hoffman (50.1) won the 400 meter dash while Smith (22&#39;7 1/2) flew to a career best in winning the long jump

Pinckneyville&#39;s Taylor Pyatt (43&#39;9) edged Hoffman (43&#39;8) for first in the triple jump.

Both the Panthers and Indians send frosh-soph teams to the Du Quoi Invitational Friday at Van Metre Field.
