Musketeers split games
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Red Bud's baseball squad started off their week with a 10-0 win in five innings over Cahokia Conference foe New Athens. The Musketeers exploded for seven runs in the first then added three more in the third. Caleb Ratz worked five innings for the win, allowing only three hits while striking out four.
Offensive leaders for Red Bud included Stefan Gregson with a home run and a single, Ratz with a double and two singles, Jordan Buch and Adam Kunkel with one double each and Dominic Frisch and Rhett Ringering with one single each.
Wednesday's action saw Red Bud drop a tough 2-1 decision to Pinckneyville. Red Bud got on the board first with a run in the second, but the Panthers tied the game in the bottom of the seventh and pushed across the winning run in the ninth. Kunkel pitched eight innings, giving up five hits and striking out eight. Seth Heizer took the loss, pitching 2/3 of an inning and allowing three hits.
Red Bud was led at the plate by Frisch with a triple, Alex Phegley with a double and a single, Kunkel and Tommy Schwartz with two singles each and Garrett Salger and Colin Wiegard with one single each.
In their next contest Red Bud fell to Carlyle by a score of 6-4. Red Bud took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but Carlyle came back with one in the second and three in the third. The Musketeers put up single runs in the fourth and fifth to tie the contest before the Indians scored twice in the seventh to take the victory. Gregson pitched seven innings and allowed 12 hits, walked two and struck out nine.
Kunkel had three hits in four at-bats, Phegley and Ratz each hit a double and Gregson, Wiegard and Buch added one hit apiece.
Red Bud came back on Friday with an easy 10-1 win over Valmeyer. The Musketeers started strong with five runs in the first and added one in the second, two in the fourth and two in the sixth. The lone run for the Pirates came in the second inning. Ratz turned in a good performance for the win, allowing only four hits and two walks while striking out five in seven innings.
Gregson was the offensive leader with a home run and four RBIs while Ratz had two doubles, Kunkel and Phegley each hit a double and a single, Wiegard and Buch had two singles apiece and Ringering and Schwartz added one hit each.
