</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Wednesday's crossover River-to-River Conference softball game at Herrin drew a perfect picture of frustration for Du Quoin High School's Lady Indians.
Stranding 13 runners-and leaving the bases loaded to end three different innings-the Lady Tribe dropped a 5-2 decision to its hosts.
Now 13-9 overall,
"We just could not get that big hit," Lady Indians coach Jason James said. "We just have to get better at bats with people in scoring position. We seem to hit the ball very well on with no one on base."
Du Quoin's lone tallies came on sophomore Michaela Brown's first home run of the season, a two-run blast in the second inning.
Jessica Hirsch doubled and had three safeties for Du Quoin, which out-hit the Lady Tigers 9-7,
Brown was 2-for-2 with Kelsey Toler, Heather Cavins, Kelsey Robinson, Ashley Hess and Ashley Ward adding hits.
Chelsea Hill (7-6) allowed seven hits in the pitching circle, striking out two,
"We will just keep working to get better," said James. "We still have a lof of games (11 scheduled) before the regionals start."
ELVERADO EDGES TRICO
Rallying for three runs in the bottom half of the seventh, the Lady Falcons (6-14, 1-4) rallied past Trico 10-9
Kelsi Teague worked the final two innings for the save and also plated the winning run with a bases loaded walk.
Kelsey Tuthill and Rachel Hunziker each had three hits for Elverado.
"This is a big win for us," EHS coach Donette Wheatley said. "We went into the last inning down by three."
Thursday, Elverado hosts Z-R-C. Prior to the game at 4:30, Elverado will induct 2009 graduate and softball standout Jenna Cochran into its wall-of-fame.
