Boys Prep Track: Hoffman shines at Sparta, Frankfort

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Boys and girls track squads from Du Quoin High School competed in last Friday&#39;s Buzz Bradley Invitational at Sparta.

Thunderstorms forced the meet to be halted with three finals remaining (300 meter intermediate hurdles, 200 meter dash and 4x400 relay) as Herrin and Benton walked away as team champions.

Du Quoin scored 56.5 points and was third in the boys meet, trailing just Herrin (97) and Sparta (79.5).

The Lady Indians were 10th among 14 entries, scoring 14 points.

Du Quoin&#39;s boys run at the West Frankfort Invitational Tuesday and the girls are idle until this Friday&#39;s Nashville Invitational.

Karson Hoffman led the boys with runner-up efforts in the Triple Jump (42&#39;7 1/4) and 400 (50.5). Chaz Bland was second in the 110 Meter High Hurdles (16.3).

FRANKFORT INVITE

Du Quoin High School placed third in the nine-team West Frankfort Invitational boys track meet Tuesday, scoring 51 points. Herrin (96) and the host Redbirds (59) held down the first two spots.

Pinckneyville (28) shared fourth place with Sesser-Valier/Waltonville-Woodlawn.

The lone event winner from Perry County was Du Quoin junior Brock Morgenstern, who launched a career-best toss of 48&#39;10 to win the shot put.

Both the Indians and Panthers run in Thursday&#39;s Benton Relays.

Top three finishers from Du Quoin and Pinckneyville were the lone event results available as the paper went to press at mid-morning Wednesday.
