Last Friday's SIRR Softball: Lady Panthers ready to clinch, late Nashville rally disappoints Du Quoin

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Nashville Community High School&#39;s softball team scored four times in its final two at-bats Friday, rallying past Du Quoin 6-3.

The Lady Indians, 13-8 overall, are 3-6 in River-to-River Conference play and host Anna-Jonesboro Monday.

"We just cannot put together seven innings of solid softball," DHS coach Jason James said. "And until we are able to do so we are going to continue to struggle."

Ashley smacked an RBI single in the first and freshman Cassidy Rice followed that with a two-run home run as Du Quoin scored all three of its tallies in the opening frame.

Jessica Hirsch had two hits with Heather Cavins and Kelsey Robinson adding safeties.

Rice (6-3) gave eight hits and struck out seven in the pitching circle.

PINCKNEYVILLE CLAIMS SHARE

Pinckneyville Community High School moved a step closer to winning the River-to-River Conference softball championship outright Friday, short-gaming Sparta by a 13-3 count.

The Lady Panthers, 24-1 and 8-1, win the title outright with a victory over Chester Monday.

Trailing 3-0 in the third, PCHS exploded for nine runs to break things wide open.

Kortney Crawford was 3-for-5 at the plate with a home run, two doubles and five RBI. Mo Ramsey had three hits with a double and three RBI. Maddy Keith also connected for two safeties.

"The big blow in the inning was a grand slam by Kortney Crawford," Lady Panthers coach Greg Hale said. "And Sara Malanowski's two-run single was big, too."

Emily Chapman and Malanowski combined to pitch a four-hitter.

PCHS 3, S-V/W 0

Tuesday, Malanowski three-hit effort paced the Lady Panthers to their 24th win.

Crawford was 3-for-3 at the plate with a triple and solo home run.

Keith went 3-for-4 with Ramsey belting a two-run roundtripper,

"The pitching and defense were very good," Hale said. "Offensively we did play like we had a few days off. We have to be ready physically and mentally every game.
