IHSA Bass Fishing: Elverado's fishing Falcons win sectional tune-up
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Elverado High School made its first competitive bass fishing tournament one to remember last week, taking home first place at the 41-boat Marion Wildcat Invitational bass tournament.
Held on Lake of Egypt, the event drew 10 different schools with all but seven of the boats entered weighing in with fish.
The event served as a preview of the Marion IHSA sectional, which is held Friday morning. All schools are allowed to enter two boats with the top three overall boats advancing to state May7-8 at Carlyle Lake.
Freshmen Brian McClanahan and Jake Lipe weighed in 13 lbs. of bass to take top honors. Greg Berner served as the boat captain.
McClanahan also had the day's biggest catch with a 4.2-pounder pulled in with plastics.
Lipe and McClanahan ended up weighing in nine total fish, averaging out at 1.4 lbs.
