Boys prep basketball: Matt Gossett picks Lincoln Land
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Du Quoin High School standout Matt Gossett last week signed a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) letter-of-intent to play basketball with Lincoln Land College in Springfield.
Gossett-a 6'5 guard/forward-finished a brilliant career at DHS with 1,109 points while also being named to the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association (IBCA) Class 1A-2A All-State first team. He also will play in the IBCA State All-Star game this summer and was named first team River-to-River All-Conference and Southern Illinois Coaches Association (SICA) All-South.
A four-year varsity letter winner, Gossett is ninth on the all-time DHS scoring chart and was picked to all-tourney teams at Du Quoin, Sparta and Pinvckneyville this season-winning MVP honors in the Du Quoin and Sparta events.
The son of Jeff and Darcy Gossett, Matt picked college basketball over football despite receiving numerous offers to play football (quarterback-linebacker).
A three-year letter winner on the gridiron, Gossett also owns three varsity baseball letters, was lead in the school play earlier this month , is an Illinois State Scholar and candidate for DHS prom king this week.
