Chester Police Department monthly report

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The following information is a summary of Chief Coffey's monthly report to the Chester City Council for April 5, 2010:

St. Mary's School Board meeting - Chief Coffey reported to the Council that he recently attended a St. Mary's School Board meeting in reference to making changes to the surrounding school zone on Swanwick and Church Streets. He stated that he is working with the Board to try and get the attention of the drivers as they travel past the school in the mornings and afternoons. Chief Coffey submitted a sketch of some of the ideas that have been proposed.

Performance Evaluations - Chief Coffey indicated that he is finishing up the performance evaluations and has invited Mayor Eggemeyer for a review or debriefing on the program.

Feedback/Evaluation for Police Department - Chief Coffey reported on an attachment he has included with his report. The attachment is a form for Council members to fill out regarding suggestions or to forward citizen concerns. The form is to be returned to the Chief by April 26th, so that he can review the forms and apply the information to department priorities for the upcoming fiscal year.

Yearly Report - Chief Coffey reported on his intentions to submit a report reviewing the previous year and plans for the upcoming year each May. The report will encompass the entire year based on the fiscal year rather than the calendar year.

Grant Application - Chief Coffey requested approval to submit a grant for in-car video systems. The grant is funded through the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board and is 100% funded.

Department Meeting/Tactical Training - Chief Coffey reported that on April 10th the police department will hold a department meeting, scheduled to take place on the Chester High School campus. Following the department meeting, the officers will conduct some informal tactical training on the school grounds. Chief Coffey indicated that the training will be related to Active Shooter response and that they will also do some refresher training on traffic enforcement safety training in the parking lot behind the school.

Retired Patrol Car - Chief Coffey submitted a bid he had received on a retired Ford Crown Victoria. The Council accepted the bid.

Chief Training - Chief Coffey reported on several executive development training courses he has attended and one course he is scheduled to attend in late April.

Mock Traffic Accident - Chief Coffey reported that he and his department will once again assist the Fire Department on their mock accident drill at the High School. The program is scheduled for April 15th.

Reading Program - Chief Coffey reported that Officer Swallers and Officer Jany met with the first grade class at St. John Lutheran School. The officers visited with the children and read them a book.

Cub Scout Tour - Chief Coffey reported that a local Cub Scout den took a tour of the police department recently. Sgt. Rinehart and Officer Swallers handled the tour and the police canine performed a brief demonstration for the Scouts.
