The Indians (8-3, 2-0) rocked Chester 17-2 in five innings while Nashville (10-1, 2-0) edged Pinckneyville (5-6, 1-1) 4-3 on Jordan Ceglinski's walk-off home run in the last of the seventh.

Pinckneyville's next action will be Friday at home versus Du Quoin.

"This was a game we let get away from us," Panthers coach Alan Engelhardt admitted. " We had two bases loaded situations with less than two outs and came away with one run. Everyone will remember the homerun that beat us to end the game, but we should have never been in that situation if we had swung the bats earlier."

PCHS out-hit the host Hornets 10-9 with eight different hitters recording at least one safety.

Adam Barczewski was 2-for-3 and Matthew Nichols smacked a solo home run.

Doubles from Drew Dudek and Brandon Long werethe only other extra-basehits.

Reliever Bryant Shute (0-3) was tagged with the mound loss. Dudek and Shute combined to strike out four and gave nine hits.

PCHS made just one error behind the pitching duo, but did surrender a pair of unearned runs.

"We did a great job defensively, making the solid plays as well as a couple of above average plays," said Engelhardt. " It is early in what looks to be a very balanced conference though, so we need to get back up and get ready to play again."
