Boys Prep Sports: 63rd Du Quoin banquet honors male athletes April 28
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ Dale Lennon, percentage-wise the most successful coach in Southern Illinois Universityís football history, will be the principal speaker at the Du Quoin Elks' Club 63rd annual banquet honoring the high school's male athletes.
The sports/social event which annually attracts several hundred parents and fans, will be held Wednesday, April 28, at the American Legion Hall in Du Quoin.
Lennon, who succeeded the popular Jerry Kill as SIU coach two years ago, has guided the Salukis to back-to-back Missouri Valley Conference football titles while leading SIU to 20 wins in 25 outings. The 2009 SIU club was the first in league history to go undefeated.
A native of North Dakota, Lennon will follow a long line of football celebrities who have served as principal speakers at the Elks affair. In addition, eight individual awards will be presented to Du Quoinís top athletes, including the "Senior Athlete of the Year" trophy.
The 6:30 p.m. affair includes a full dinner for those attending. Tickets are available for $8. from any member of the Elksí committee which includes Blaine Bastien, Jim Cravens, Jack Crawford, Dan Eaves, Danny Eisenhauer, Cha Hill, Fred Huff, Doc Holladay, Bill Isom, Monte Kuhnert, Steve Marek, Al Porter, Gene Showalter, Gordy Showalter and Chuck Smith.
