CHS Lady Jackets Track and Field Team wins first meet of 2010

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The Chester High School Lady Yellow Jackets Track and Field Team won their first meet of the season Tuesday March 30 at the CHS Track and Field Complex. It was a dry, sunny, breezy day with temperatures at the 68 degree mark when the first gun was fired.

The Chester girls won hands down with 165 points followed by Christopher (128), Vienna (89), Red Bud (60), Steeleville (50), Gibault (13) and Shawnee (8). Enroute to the team victory the Lady Jackets captured five event titles including pole vault, 3200-Meter Relay, 800-Meter Relay, 20-Meter Dash and 1600-Meter Relay.

In the Field events, Jordan Clendenin won the Pole Vault with a vault of 8-0. Libby Bollmann placed 2nd with a vault of 5-3. Devon Hecht scored eight points in the long jump by finishing 2nd with a leap of 14-0. In the Triple Jump, Hecht placed 2nd with a jump of 31-2 while Chester's Jenna Wingerter placed 4th at 27-7.

Continuing in the field events Hanna Knop placed 4th in the Shot Put with her toss of 28-2 and teammate Kayla Welge threw 24-11 placing 6th. Chester had two girls place in the High Jump. Jenna Wingerter and Jade Jolly both jumped 4-6 to tie for 2nd. Jill Winkelman of Steeleville won the discus with her throw of 102-6. CHS did not enter any athletes in that event.

The Jackets won four running events. Two of those were individual and two were relays. Jillian Yankey won the 3200-Meter Run with a time of 14:25.7. Rachel Young was the winner of the 200-Meter dash with her 27.5 performance.

The CHS 800-Meter Relay team of Tiffani Marshall, Kristy Pulliam, Jade Jolly and Rachel Young won with a time of 1:56.2. Finally Chester's 1600-Meter Relay team of Jillian Yankey, Kristen Maes, Holly Hartman and Kristy Pulliam won with their 5:10.4 performance.

The Jacket's 3200-Meter Relay Team opened the running events with a 2nd place finish and a time of 12:33.0. The winning time was 12:13.5 from Christopher. Chester's squad consisted of Jillian Yankey, Kristen Maes, Holly Hartman and Hanna Knop.

Jordan Clendenin, Jenna Wingerter, Jade Jolly and Kristy Pulliam placed 2nd in the 400-Meter Relay with their time of 55.3. They just missed winning by a tenth of a second as Vienna won with a time of 55.2.

Two Lady Jackets competed in the 100-Meter Hurdles. Tiffani Marshall finished 2nd with a time of 18.3 and Chelsea Schroeder placed 5th with her time of 20.9. Rachel Duensing of Steeleville was the winner with her winning time of 17.8.

Rachel Young of Chester was runner-up in the 100-Meter Dash. She turned in a time of 13.7. Klinger from Vienna won with a time of 12.7. Hanna Knop finished 3rd in the 800-Meter Run with a time of 3:06.6. Teammate Kristen Maes placed 5th with a time of 3:12.8. The winning time came from Steeleville's Natalie Ruebke at 2:45.3.

Jillian Yankey was runner-up in the 400-Meter Dash with her 1:08.6 performance. She also just missed picking up a win as Christopher's Barton edged her out with her time of 1:08.2.

In the 300-Meter Hurdles CHS had two ladies who competed. Jordan Clendenin finished 2nd with a time of 54.5 and Courtney Johnson finished 6th at 1:04.5. Rachel Duensing of Steeleville was the winner at 51.5.

Finally Jillian Yankey was runner-up in the 1600-Meter Run to Steeleville's Natalie Ruebke who had a time of 6:27.0. Yankey finished just five-seconds later at 6:32.7.

Coach Jennifer Stumpe was extremely proud of her Lady Jackets in their first performances of the 2010 season. It was her opinion that the early conditioning and experience of the indoor track and field helped to prepare her squad for the spring outdoor season. Stumpe is looking forward to a very competitive year in track and field.
