Morgan happened to be the first of 32 Class 2A participants to step to the line in Peoria and he set the bar fairly high by making eight of fifteen shots. He finished second in his group of eight but did not place in the top four overall.

Cain Sheldon of Harrisburg and Derek Ade of Pana made 10 shots to qualify for Friday's finals while Reggie McGee of Rockford Christian Life made 11 and Nathan Ropp of Minonk Fieldcrest made 12.

Ropp won the championship on Friday, although it did take several rounds of tiebreakers before he was able to eliminate Sheldon.
