Chester City Council approves contractors for work at Cohen Complex

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ At the Chester City Council meeting held Monday, March 1, the council approved Lighting Resources Ins.of Bridgeton, MO to install a 600 amp electrical panel and all related work for the Cohen Complex softball fields. Also approved was the OSLAD Grant Committee's recommendation, All Purpose Erectors Inc. of Lebanon, Il, for the sports lighting proposal for the Cohen Complex softball fields.

In other council news the ODFI/Originator Agreement with Buena Vista National Bank was approved.

Rick Parker was appointed as the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Coordinator. The council then went on to pass a resolution adopting grievance procedure under the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The council ratified action on the purchase of a 1997 Ford truck for the water department

The insurance committee was approved to seek proposals for health, life and dental insurance.

No action was taken on Chester's participation with the Randolph County Progress Committee.

In his report, Chief Coffey reported to the Chester City Council on the following topics at the regular City Council meeting:

Chief Coffey reported on the scheduled closure of the Chester Bridge and how the closure could adversely affect local farmers and large equipment dealers. Chief Coffey explained that for several years now his Department has handled the wide-load escorts across the bridge. Chief Coffey said that he has met with representatives of the Missouri Department of Transportation and the company contracted to do the work on the bridge. As a result, they have planned to create a way to send out e-mails informing these affected businesses as to when the bridge will be available to cross with equipment requiring a wide-load escort.

He reported that he attended the Chester Chamber of Commerce meeting on Tuesday, February 16, and debriefed the Board on some of the dispositions of the recent counterfeiting case. He also reported on some programs the Police Department has been working on.

Chief Coffey reported that he has been working with St. Mary's Catholic School in reference to the 20 mph school zone, and he reported on some parking concerns along the 600 block of State Street and at the corner of State and Swanwick Streets.

Chief Coffey reported that the Police Department participated in "Wellness Day" at Chester High School. He stated that Deputy Chief Helmers, Canine Officer Joe Swallers, and Officer Joe Jany all participated in the program.

He also reported that two staff members will meet with the first grade class at St. John Lutheran School and will read a book together and visit.

The next regularly scheduled city council meeting will be held Monday, March 15 at 7:00 p.m. at Chester City Hall.
