The Road to Peoria- Herrin 2A Sectional: Red-hot Red Devils end Du Quoin's run

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ A white-hot start pushed Murphysboro High School's boys basketball team into the Class 2A Super-Sectional for the first time since 1982, holding back Du Quoin 68-67 in the finals of the Herrin Sectional Friday night.

The Red Devils, 29-2, advance to play another 29-2 sqtad, Breese Central , Tuesday in West Frankfort.

The Indians finished another banner season with a 25-7 mark.

Murphysboro hit seven of its first eight shots-including four three-pointers-to open the early cushion.

Du Quoin, down 24-13 and 42-26 at the first two quarter-stops, managed to whittle the margin down to just 61-53 before the Red Devils sealed the victory.

J.C. Davis led the Indians with a game-high 21 points. Matt Gossett added 13 and Jamor Reed 10.
