Winkleman shoots at state
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Steeleville Lady Warriors basketball star Jill Winkleman participated in the Country Financial Three-Point Showdown last Thursday at Illinois State University's Redbird Arena. Winkleman turned in a great performance and missed qualifying for the finals by the narrowest of margins.
Thirty two shooters from Class 1A schools around the state shot in the preliminary round, with only four advancing to the Class 1A finals on Friday. Winkleman made seven out of fifteen shots, putting her in a six way tie for third place behind Kelsey Herridge of Brimfield with nine and Lauren Diess of Illini Central with eight.
The six girls tied for third got to shoot ten more times in the tie-breaker. Alyssa Fender of Louisville claimed the third spot by making six shots, two were eliminated after only making three shots and Winkleman, Kamisha Holsapple of Toledo and Brooklyn Vaughn of Golconda (Pope County) remained tied for the fourth spot by making four.
In the second tie-breaker, Holsapple claimed the final spot in the championships by making six shots, Winkleman had four and Vaughn put in three.
