Junior High Volleyball: Lady Warriors first at Anna Invite
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Du Quoin (Middle School) swept four matches-winning all in two games-and ran the table at the Anna (Junior High School) volleyball tournament Saturday.
The Lady Warriors, 9-1, had shared the tourney's title in each of the past two seasons.
Wins came over Jonesboro (25-11, 25-15), Lick Creek (25-11, 25-10), DeSoto (25-15, 25-17) and Anna (25-9, 25-15).
"The girls were very consistent throughout the day," DMS coach Isaac Miller said. "They stayed very positive and really played the best volleyball they've played this year. I couldn't be prouder of them."
Chandra Gilliam paced the Lady Warriors with a 36-point day and was perfect in 49 trips to the serving ine. She also had a team-best 31 assists and 15 aces.
Annie-Claire Bastien added 27 points and 10 aces with Bailie Caldwel netting 21 points and 14 kills.
Up front, Kate Toler had 35 kills and 16 points.
Hailey Stewart posted 27 assists with Abby Meyers recording 10 digs to go along with 22 kills and 14 assists.
"This is a tournament we've haven't been able to win the last two years," Miller said. "And that really says a lot about these girls considering the team's we've had the last two years."
The defending two-time state champions are in action again Tuesday at Nashville.
