Only One Contested Race on Tuesday

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Snow on the ground could be a factor in the turnout for next Tuesday's general primary election in Perry County.

The deadline for filing nominating petitions for the February 2 Democrat, Republican and Green Party primaries came to pass in early November, and here is what voters face in the Tuesday election.

Incumbent Democrat County Clerk Kevin Kern and Democrat Treasurer Bill Taylor will run unopposed in both the Feb. 2 primary and in the general election--barring a write-in candidacy.

Kern's petition was filed at 12:45 p.m. on October 30 and Taylor's petition filed at 9:20 a.m. on October 29.

There will be three candidates for Perry County Sheriff on the Democrat primary ballot. They include incumbent Keith Kellerman, longtime law enforcement office Jerry Speers and William Gibson, a sheriff's candidate in the last quadrennial election.

Kellerman filed his petition at 8 a.m. October 26. Speers filed at 8 a.m. October 26 and Gibson filed at 10 a.m. on October 30.

Du Quoin businessman Rex Emery will be unopposed in the Democrat primary for county commissioner and will advance to face incumbent Republican Sam Robb in the general election for Robb's seat.

Emery filed his petition at 10:45 a.m. on October 30 and Robb filed his petition at 1:10 p.m. on November 2

There are no Green Party candidates for the major offices.

Voters in Old Du Quoin will be asked, by referendum to dissolve the Old Du Quoin Water District.
