Junior High Roundup: Tough night for DMS Warriors

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Carbondale (Middle School) jumped to a 22-point halftime lead and rolled past Du Quoin (Middle School) Tuesday night.

The final score was 53-27 as DMS dipped to 12-7.

Thursday, they will play at Marion. A "C" game starts at 5:00 with the seventh graders (5:30) and varsity (7:00) to follow.

Spencer Cook led the Warriors with eight points and seven rebounds against CMS,

Will Galik and Camden Mercier each had five points.

In the seventh grade game, Carbondale's powerful Cougars ran past DMS (16-3) 64-34.

W. Galik (11), Matt Galik (six) and Jerry Kuhnert (six) were points leaders. Noah Campbell added five.

Du Quoin (Middle School) ended Junior Southwestern Egyptian Conference (Jr. SWEC) play with a narrow home victory Monday, skirting past Trico (Junior High School).

The final score was 33-32.

Spencer Cook scored 16 points and had seven rebounds for the Warriors (12-6).

Against Trico Monday, DMS rolled to a 51-27 win as 11 different young Warriors scored.

M. Galik was tops with 10 points while AJ Smith added eight, Nolan Showalter and Jacob Wright seven apiece with W. Galik netting six.

VICTORY ESCAPES PJHS

Pinckneyville (Junior High School) saw a four-point halftime edge

slip away during Monday's 61-52 loss to Sparta (Middle School).

The Junior Panthers (12-10), ended Junior Southwestern Egyptian Conference (Jr. SWEC) play with a 6-6 record and were led by the 21-point effort of Chase Lazenby.

Braydon Cowley added 17 points, connecting on a trio of three-point shots.

No other Junior Panther scored more than four points.

Sparta also won the seventh grade game.

T/SB GIRLS at STATE

Last Friday, Tamaroa/St. Bruno ended the girls season with a 22-6 record following a 50-36 loss to Bartelso (Grade School) in the quarterfinals of the SIJHSAA Class S State Tournament.

"We got beat by a good Bartelso team," T/SB coach Jim Harris said.

"I am very proud of the girls. They played hard and hustled all night long."

Bailey Nippe had 16 points, five rebounds and five assists for the Lady Indians with Kayla Harris adding nine points and three steals.

Bartelso led 29-19 by halftime and was ahead by 10 before T/SB rallied in the final quarter.

"We had cut it down to six in th fourth," Harris said. "But we missed a couple of close shots and Bartelso came down and hit a three to go back up nine. Then we started fouling to get the ball back, but they hit their free throws."

Bartelso is a feeder school for the Breese Central district.
