Sparta releases minutes of prior executive sessions

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The Sparta Board of City Commissioners' meeting on Monday was shorter than usual with only one major motion before the board. The board meets twice per month on the second and fourth Mondays.

The commissioners approved the release of minutes from prior executive session meetings for six dates. The minutes dealt mostly with personnel issues.

Periodically, the city attorney reviews executive session minutes to determine those which may be released to the public. Executive sessions are closed meetings, out of sight and sound of the public. Open meeting laws limit the topics which may be discussed in executive sessions. Usually, such sessions are held to discuss disciplinary matters, legal issues, and personnel concerns.

The board's next meeting will be Monday, Feb. 8 at 7 p.m. at Sparta City Hall.
