Red Bud school district gets grant funds
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Superintendent Steve Harsy told the Red Bud District 132 Board of Education Thursday the district had received a Title 1 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act grant which will fund 50 percent of most aide's salaries and purchases of other program supplies, services, and hardware. The ARRA IDEA grant funds are being supervised by Mary Ringering.
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 appropriates significant new funding for programs under Parts B and C of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Part B of the IDEA provides funds to state educational agencies and local educational agencies to help them ensure that children with disabilities, including children aged three through five, have access to a free appropriate public education to meet each child's unique needs and prepare him or her for further education, employment, and independent living.
The state textbook loan program will not be allocating funds at this time, the board learned. The adoption of the reading curriculum is scheduled for this year, but due to the decrease in available funds, not all classes will receive an upgrade.
Elementary school Principal Larry Lovel proposed adding Kindergarten to the Computer Assisted Learning Method rotation for the 2011-2012 school year. CALM is a free Web-based learning tool.
The board approved a number of personnel matters. Rick Goodman will replace Harsy, who is leaving after the current school year. Goodman will assume superintendent duties on July 1. The board hired Kristen Bass as a high school English teacher and Tammy Kueker as elementary school assistant volleyball coach.
Payment of retirement benefits for Mike Stolte was approved. The benefits will be calculated and paid in accordance with previous non-certified retirees.
Letters of resignation effective at the conclusion of the current school year were accepted from Joyce Carnahan, Linda Franklin, Victoria Peppes, Paulette Deterding, and Deborah Opel.

The board chose to continue services with Schorb and Schmersalh, LLC, to facilitate the sale of school fire prevent, health, and life safety bonds for the district.
It was determined that the funding of the Ten Year Life Safety renovations, to be completed during the summer of 2010, will be accomplished with the bond sale.
Harsy was instructed to contact Todd Jones of Mevert Professional Associates to conduct the bidding process for the Ten Year Life Safety renovations.
The board granted Randy Battas permission to begin the bidding process for a walk-in freezer for the high school cafeteria.
