2010 BIT: Pinckneyville works overtime in win over Carlyle
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ They had to work overtime to get it done, but the Pinckneyville Panthers extended a pair of winning streaks Friday night at Rich Herrin gymnasium, knocking off Carlyle 58-46 in OT at the 2010 Benton Invitational Tournament.
Tied at 45-45 at the end of regulation, the game headed into overtime after the Panthers had led after each of the first three quarters of play and then managed only three points in the entire fourth quarter.
Nathan Morton's three-point play just over a minute into the OT put the Panthers ahead, but it was the play that followed a few moments later that put the game out of reach.
Shay Kellerman drove to the hoop, drawing contact from Jared Linton of Carlyle, and made the running one-hander. Linton was whistled for a block on the play, and Indians' coach Andy Palmer was whistled for a technical foul for his resulting reaction.
Kellerman made all three free throws to put the Panthers up 53-45, and the defense did the rest.
The win was Pinckeyville's seventh in a row, and their twenty-eighth straight victory at the B.I.T.
Pinckneyville will take on Benton at 11:00 a.m tomorrow morning, and could see up to three players return from suspension. With a win in that game, the Panthers would play for another 5-0 championship at 9:00 p.m. against Sesser-Valier.
