New Storm Siren for Du Quoin
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The Du Quoin city council Tuesday approved the $12,000 purchase of a new storm siren for the Du Quoin Industrial Park which will help protect not only the town's northwest corner, but also residents of St. Johns
The council also approved the $19,000 purchase of a new squad car for the police department. The vehicle will be paid for largely through drug case seizure and forfeiture monies.
The council gave final approval to Ordinance 2009-O12-02: An ordinance amending Chapter 6 Building Regulations Addendum "A" pertaining to building permit fees. The ordinance establishes a 10 cents per square foot building permit fee versus what was formerly a flat fee.
The council approved Ordinance 2009-O12-03: An ordinance amending Section 40-2-6 of the Zoning Regulations pertaining to issuing and fees charged for a Zoning Permit. This ordinance complements the building permit fee and was also set at 10 cents a square foot.
Following an executive session to discuss personnel and contract talks, the council voted to approve the transfer of Du Quoin police officer Steve Ingram from the police department to the water department at Ingram's request.
