"At a time when our state is facing so many problems, I am pleased to bring one of our state's leading policymakers to our region. While Senate President Cullerton is here, he will meet many of my fellow Southern Illinoisans and hear their stories," stated Walker. "As State Senator, it will be my priority to draw attention to Southern Illinois' needs and showcase our many strengths. Our region desperately needs a fresh voice and energetic leadership if we are going to meet our many challenges. That is what I will offer for years to come as the State Senator from the 58th District."
Jeremy Walker is a partner in the Arbeiter and Walker law firm with offices in Chester and Red Bud. He also serves as the Randolph County Public Defender. He is a graduate of Red Bud High School and Southern Illinois University. Walker earned his law degree from the SIU School of Law and has practiced law in Randolph County since his graduation. He and his wife, Jennie, live in Red Bud.
Senate President John Cullerton has served in the Illinois State Senate since 1991 and served 12 years in the Illinois House prior to that. Senator Cullerton was elected by his peers to serve as President of the Illinois Senate in January 2009; one of the most influential leadership positions in Illinois government. In that role, Senator Cullerton led the Senate during the impeachment trial which resulted in the removal of former Governor Rod Blagojevich.
In announcing Cullerton's visit to the region Walker stated, "I look forward to working with Senate President Cullerton to strengthen Southern Illinois' voice in Springfield. He is recognized for his ability to work across party lines to build bipartisan solutions to problems. That's the kind of leadership and cooperation our state needs to successfully create jobs and improve the quality of life for the citizens of our state. That's also the kind of leadership I will bring to our great Senate district."
The 58th Senate district includes all of Randolph, Monroe, Perry, Washington, and Jackson Counties and parts of Union, Clinton, and St. Clair Counties.
