Junior High Roundup: Local Teams Enter the Holiday Break

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Tamaroa/St. Bruno won three of four recent girls basketball games and sports a 16-4 record entering the long holiday break.

T/SB lost 36-28 against perennial powerhouse Okawville before bouncing back for wins over Nashville (Trinity St. John's) 26-18, Pinckneyville (#204) 31-25 and Herrin (OLMC) 34-22.

Kaylee Rulevish was the top T/SB scorer during the four-game stretch with 27 points. Bailey Nippe added 20, Kayla Harris 19 and Jordan Koenegstein 19.

"We are now 16-4 with five games remaining before regionals," Lady Indians coach Jim Harris said. "Its been a difficult week due to illness."

T/SB is 4-8 at the seventh grade level and went 1-3 during the four-game stretch.

DMS WINS TWICE

Du Quoin (Middle School) posted two wins heading into the holiday break this week, dispatching Chester (Junior High School) and Benton (Middle School).

The varsity Warriors are 9-3, 5-2 in Junior Southwestern Egyptian Conference (Jr. SWEC).

Monday at Chester, DMS pulled away to win 41-29 as Spencer Cook scored 15 points and hauled down 13 rebounds. Camden Mercier added nine points and three assists with Kody Hess netting seven points.

Tuesday at Benton, the Warriors squeaked out a 45-43 win as Cook (13 points, eight rebounds) and Will Galik (13 points, five assists, four steals) led the way.

Jason Nelson also had eight rebounds.

In seventh grade action, DMS (11-1, 6-1) handled Chester 39-26 and blasted Benton 63-30.

W. Galik (14) and Matthew Galik (eight points) were scoring aces at Chester.

In the rout of Benton, Jerry Kuhnert had 17 points and seven rebounds. Noah Campbell (11 points, 10 rebounds) was also in double figures.

W. Galik (nine points) and AJ Smith (eight points, four assists) were also solid.

PJHS WINS

With Chase Lazenby (12) and Robbie Mueller (11) leading the way, Pinckneyville (Junior High School) defeated Okawville (Junior High School) Tuesday.

The final score was 42-33.

Justyn Rushing added six points for the Junior Panthers, who also won the seventh grade game.
