Monday's Girls Prep Basketball: First Win for Lady Falcons

Monday night in Piper/Valerius Gymnasium, that streak came to a crashing halt as the Lady Falcons held on to nip BDC rival Trico 35-33.
Bedar also wasn't sure when Elverado last defeated the Lady Pioneers, a longtime nemesis.
"We shot a little better and were able to cut down at least a little bit on our turnovers," the Elverado coach said. "Of course, we jumped ahead 20-5 and that always helps."
Elverado's big first half ended with an 11-point lead (20-9) and the margin was whittled down to 25-24 as the final quarter started.
The Lady Falcons never relinquished the lead, but lost the ball with three seconds remaining. Trico (0-5. 0-2), however, couldn't get a shot off as time expired.
Courtney Morse led Elverado with 15 points and Chelsea Cochran added 13. The win came on the heels of a 51-11 loss to BDC leader Carterville last week.
"There were a few rough spots in the second half, but the girls held on and we are pretty excited about ending the streak and getting a conference win," Bedar said. "If we can play like this Thursday (vs. Zeigler-Royalton/Christopher), then we have a chance at another win."
Chelsea Jarrett's game-high 18 points led Trico, which hit just 13-of-26 foul shots.
Elverado also notched its first junior varsity win of the season Monday, defeating Trico.
The Lady Falcons varsity marks are 1-7 and 1-2.
