County Board Sets Truth in Taxation Hearing Dates
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ The Perry County Board will hold two truth in taxation hearings prior to the next regular board meeting on Dec. 17. The Unit Road District hearing is set for 1 p.m. and the County's hearing is set for 1:30 p.m. The board meeting begins at 2 p.m.
Both the Unit Road District and Perry County anticipate about a 13 percent increase in the next year's tax levy.
In other business, the board:
passed a resolution finding the Perry Ridge Landfill in default of the host agreement. According to State's Attorney David Stanton, the landfill is two quarters behind. Citing a section in the host agreement, Stanton suggested that the County Board include a 1 percent interest payment on the current late payment, as well as any previously late payments since the agreement took effect in January 2007. Perry County is currently owed $84,009 in host fees and solid waste fund payments.
passed a resolution approving continued participation in the State's Attorney's Appellate Prosecutor program. The cost of the program is $8,000 and has been since 1992. Stanton said that the Appellate Prosecutor handles 80 to 110 cases for Perry County each year.
re-appointed Arlen Carson, Dave Pirsein and Nelson Rule to the Pinckneyville Community Hospital District Board of Trustees.
re-appointed Doug Bishop to the Greater Egypt Regional Planning and Development Commission.
re-appointed Michael Kelly to the Perry County Zoning Board of Appeals.
heard from Treasurer Bill Taylor that the final real estate tax payment was due on Nov. 20. Anyone who would like to avoid an additional $10 charge, must pay before delinquent notices are sent on Dec. 18.
