Details of the accident were not available until today.

Nashville Chief of Police Martin Andrews reports that 83-year-old Marion Wheeler of Pinckneyville was taken to Washington County Hospital in Nashville and transferred from there in stable condition to St. Louis University Hospital following the 8:30 a.m. accident.

Andrews says Wheeler, driving a 1998 Chevrolet truck, apparently was stopped to turn left into ALCO and failed to see an oncoming semi tractor trailer truck, which struck his vehicle. The semi went into a ditch south of Mercantile Drive. Wheeler's vehicle spun and hit a 1997 Ford F-150 behind him driven by carolyn Johnson of Elkville.

The driver of the semi was Craig Timmerman of Aviston, who was not injured.
