</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ Du Quoin High School's freshman and junior varsity football teams both moved one step closer to winning River-to-River Conference titles Monday night at Van Metre Field.

The frosh (6-1) are 4-0 in Mississippi Division play following a hard-fought 8-6 victory over Nashville while the sophs (4-3, 4-0) notched their fourth straight win, besting the Hornets 29-12.

Each squads needs wins against Anna-Jonesboro to claim conference crowns. The frosh visit there Thursday while the jayvees play next Monday.

In the frosh game- rescheduled from last week- Du Quoin scored a touchdown midway through the second quarter and then held on for the win.

Brenden Fred's 3-yard touchdown pass to Nate Boss gave the young Indians a 6-0 lead. Shayne Baxter then ran in for the two-point conversion, giving Du Quoin an 8-0 lead.

Nashville pulled within two points in the fourth quarter, but were denied the go-ahead score on a big defensive play.

With fourth down and just inches to go deep in Du Quoin territory, linebacker Jonah Spencer threw the ballcarrier for a loss to give Du Quoin back possession.

Tim Cochran recovered a fumble and Austin Mansker added an interception for the Indians.

In the sophomore contest, Du Quoin rallied from a 6-0 deficit to score twice in the second quarter.

A 16-yard pass from Sam Gossett to Kegan Robbins with 4:37 left before halftime tied the score.

Cayle Diggins then kicked the extra point to put Du Quoin in front to stay.

Gossett's 14-yard pass to Jonathon Boss- and another kick by Diggins- stretched the margin to 14-6 at intermission.

Leading 14-12 early in the fourth quarter, Du Quoin's lead would grow on Diggins' three-yard run.

On the PAT try, Diggins fielded an errant snap and ran for the two point conversion.
