GIRLS BASKETBALL: Elverado routs Century, 57-37

Elverado celebrated Senior Night in front of a packed house at EHS with a 57-37 victory over visiting Century on Thursday, a win that assures the Lady Falcons of no worse than a second place finish in the South Egyptian Conference.

"I think it was great for our three seniors - Cheyenne Abbadusky, Kaitlin Lively and Kylee Bedar - to come out with a bang tonight," said Elverado head coach Rasheeda Love. "The crowd and the community came out and supported them for our breast-cancer awareness game. It was great for them to play at the level that we know they're capable of playing."

Abbadusky scored eleven of her game-high 26 points in the opening quarter to help the Lady Falcons jump out to a 16-9 lead.

A 13-1 Elverado run in the third quarter blew the game open. Bedar and Brooke Whittington each hit three-pointers during the two and a half minute stretch that saw the Lady Falcons increase their lead to 41-22 with ten minutes left to play.

Century got as close as twelve down in the final period, but Elverado was able to hang on with another big quarter from Abbadusky, who had eight points in the final eight minutes.

Bedar finished with 13 points for EHS, Whittington had 6, Lively and Hannah Alstat 4, and Tori Ehlers and Kennedy Kimmel each had 2.

The Lady Falcons finished their regular season at 9-17, but had just one loss in conference play. They will be the third seed in the Trico Regional, which begins on Monday. EHS takes on second seed Cobden on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. for the right to play in the championship game on Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
