Chester advances to Murphy tournament quarterfinals

MURPHYSBORO -- The lead was almost too comfortable for Chester.

Colin Wingerter scored 21 points to lead three players in double figures, and Chester survived a huge scare in a 64-57 win over Du Quoin on Saturday on the first day of the Murphysboro Sophomore Basketball Tournament.

Ian Reith (15) and Drake Bollman (14) also reached double digits for the Yellow Jackets, who led 45-33 after three quarters, but saw Du Quoin hack the deficit down to a single possession, 46-43, with 5:31 remaining in the game.

Ethen Eggemeyer and Jakob Cushman each added seven points for Chester, which had only five players score.

"We got a little off-plan there and had some turnovers, but that's the norm when you've got full-court pressure thrown at you for more than a quarter at a time," said Chester coach Aaron Halstead. "We did a pretty good job throughout the entire game of taking care of the ball and staying with feeding the ball to a post and using our size."
