BASEBALL: Falcons explode for 20 runs in rout of Cairo

Elverado picked up their second win of the baseball season on Wednesday at home, routing the visiting Cairo Pilots 20-3 in five innings behind a 13-hit attack on offense and some solid pitching from Avery Caraker and Logan Cavitt.

Nine different Falcons had hits and the pair of right-handed pitchers combined to allow just one hit and two walks. Caraker worked the first three innings and struck out six, Cavitt the final two frames with five Ks.

"Avery and Logan did what they needed to do, and that was throw strikes," said EHS baseball head coach Tim Davis. "It was a good game for us offensively. We had some kids swing the bat aggressively."

The Falcons got twelve runs in the bottom of the first inning to put the game away early. Cavitt, Clayton Funk, Nolan Waller, Keaton Tyner, and Austin Hester all had RBI hits during the big rally for Elverado.

C. Funk (2-2, 3 R, RBI), Waller (2-3, 4 R, 3 RBI, 2 BB), Tyner (1-3, 2 R, RBI, 2B, BB), Hester (1-3, 2 R, 4 RBI, BB), Caraker (1-4, 2 R), Cavitt (2-2, R, 2 RBI, 2 BB), Alec Valerius (2-2, 2 R, 2B, 2 BB), Joe Ralph (1-3, R, RBI, 2B, BB) and Gage Funk (1-2, R) all had hits in the onslaught by the Falcons.

EHS will try to build on the victory in Friday's home game against Joppa.
