BASEBALL: Panthers out-slugged by Terriers, 13-11
Pinckneyville got into a slugfest at Carbondale on Thursday, but came out on the losing end of the battle 13-11 despite out-hitting the Terriers 10-to-9 and drawing 10 walks.
Jacob Louis and Justin Bauersachs both had RBI doubles in the top of the first inning to put the Panthers up 3-0, but Carbondale got it all back and then some in the bottom half. An error and two walks preceded three Terrier hits, putting Carbondale on top 4-3.
Two-out hits by Tyler Rulevish and Jackson Brand followed by a walk to Nolan Luke helped the Panthers get the lead back when Adam Banach reached on an error, making it 5-4 Pinckneyville mid-second inning. This time, Carbondale answered with four runs in the bottom of the frame.
It was 13-9 Terriers in the top of the seventh inning when Rulevish and Brand got on base to score on Banach's double that cut the lead to two, but the rally would end there.
Rulevish (3-4, 4 R, 2B, HBP), Brand (1-1, 4 R, RBI, 4 BB), Banach (2-4, 5 RBI, 2B, HBP), Louis (2-5, R, 3 RBI, 2 2B), Bauersachs (1-2, 2 RBI, 2B, 2 BB) and Clayton Houghland (1-4) had hits for the Panthers.
