SIJHSAA State Semifinals: #204 Lady Tigers will Play for Third
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Pinckneyville (#204) will play for third place in the Southern Illinois Junior High School Athletic Association (SIJHSAA) Class S State Softball Tournament.
The Lady Tigers, 15-13, lost 9-1 against defending champion Galatia (Junior High School) in Wednesday's semifinal round.
At 1 p.m., Friday-weather permitting-#204 meets Giant City for third place.
Megan Bagley had the lone hit for the Lady Tigers, who fell behind 6-0 after the first two innings.
Caitie Opp worked all seven frames in the pitchers circle for #204, whiffing five and giving 10 hits. Only four runs scored by GJHS proved to be earned.
Galatia advances to the finals and will meet St. Peter/Paul of Highland. SPP edged Giant City in the second semifinal, 5-4.
The Lady Tigers have endured a brutal schedule in 2009 with five of their losses coming against Class L or Class M foes. Six other opponents also reached the Class S State Tournament.
