DMS was 10-2 in Junior Southwestern Egyptian Conference (Jr. SWEC) league play. Pinckneyville (Junior High School) went 10-1 with a Tuesday game against Trico (Junior High School) canceled by wet grounds. A win by Trico- if the game is made up- would give DMS a share of its first-ever softball conference crown.
Friday, Class L Regional play starts for DMS, 17-5, at Johnston City.
"We played a lot better today," Lady Warriors coach Jason James said. "Marisa Ferguson pitched very well again and we played good defense. We hit the ball a lot better today."
Nashville touched Ferguson for three runs in the third inning, but couldn't score against the righthander. Ferguson (9-3) struck out five, walked one and scattered five hits. All but two of those safeties came in the third inning.
One frame later, DMS tied things at 3-3.
A two-run single from Katrina Whitley was the key hit with Aubrey Davis' bases loaded walk accounting for the first Du Quoin tally.
In the fifth, the Lady Warriors plated the winning run when Kate Toler doubled and eventually came around on a Nashville error.
Davis, Whitley, Bri Green and Toler had the Du Quoin hits.
In the sixth, Green scored the final DMS run.
