Friday Night Lights: Fighting Falcons visit BDC Newcomer Saturday

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ Despite a 19-game losing streak- and 0-4 current record-Elverado-Trico football coach Duffy Sanders couldn't mask his excitement earlier this week when quizzed about Saturday's game at Vienna-Goreville (1-3).

The Fighting Falcons visit Vienna with hopes of spoiling the Eagles' first varsity football Homecoming celebration since 1931.

"I feel good about things and I think we've got a chance to win this football game," Sanders said. "They are a big and physical team but we feel like there are some things we can do."

Vienna-Goreville, coached by Hall-of-Famer Mike Rude (40 years, 191-131), defeated Hamilton County 30-28 in week #1 but hasn't won since. They've fallen to Fairfield (45-0), Sesser-Valier (45-8) and Carmi-White County (28-16).

The single wing V-G offense is built around leading rushers Reedus Maynor (6'0, 235, sr.), Coleton Krelo (5'10, 192, sr.), speedy Dylan Kramp (6'0, 155, sr.) and Dillon Hall (5'9, 165, sr.).

The Eagles seldom throw, but Krelo and Maynor's favorite targets include Josh Dunn (6'0, 180, sr.) and Garrett Maddox (6'4, 223, jr.).

Maynor and Martin Powell (6'2, 235, sr.) are the defensive leaders at linebacker.

Powell anchors offensive and defensive lines that also include Jose Ruiz (5'9, 195, sr.) and Dustin Childers (6'0, 220, sr.)

E-T had a pair of injury scares in last week loss to Carterville.

Two-way starters Alex McGill (QB-S) and Alex Rodman (TE-LB) should be at full strength by Saturday after both exited early against Carterville.

McGill's thumb injury is healing nicely and Sanders admits the Fighting Falcons will likely take to the air against Vienna-Goreville.

"We hope the weather and the field will be dry," he said while noting a rather ominous weather forecast. "I feel like we will be able to throw the football."

Kickoff is set for 1 o'clock.
