Yellow Jacket Golf team manages 2nd lowest score in three seasons

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Although the Yellow Jackets fell short of Trico's 174 last Thursday, the individual accomplishments of the team Barthol, Richelman, Higgerson, and Pfeiffer deserve recognition for cutting 54 strokes from their 247 match at Crab Orchard with a team score of 193.

Since taking over the Varsity golf team in 2007, on only four occasions have a Jacket foursome put together a team score under 200 and, after this year's Chester Invitational Tournament, it became a team goal to strive to compete and set sights on a sub-200 team score. The foursome's achievement stands only to be beaten in last year's Nashville Invitational by the Baughman, Barthol, Schroeder, Springer squad.

Senior Brett Barthol set a personal best in competitive match play with his score of 38 for the round. With seven pars and two bogeys, Barthol tied the lowest score of the match with Trico's Heller. Jonavan Richelman has also set a personal best, dropping strokes on every match for a season low of 47 with two pars and three bogeys. Sam Higgerson has been shaking the rust from his game and brought in a 50 while Tommy Pfeiffer carded a 58 for the second straight match. Newcomer Robert Gonzalez (Fr) played in his first high school match and finished with a 9-hole score of 68.

The Jackets will return to Chester Country Club to host the Sparta Bulldogs on Tuesday, September 8 before heading to the Nashville Municipal Golf Course on Thursday, September 10 and taking a shot at beating last year's team score in the Nashville H.S. Golf Invitational. Also attending Nashville's Invitational will be Anna-Jonesboro, Mater Dei, Murphysboro, Pinckneyville, Sparta, Waterloo, and Gibault. Awards will be given for first and second place teams as well as first through sixth individual scores. Tee Time on Thursday will be at 3:30 p.m.
