Jacket golfers cutting strokes at Union County

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ On Tuesday, September 1 the Yellow Jacket Varsity golf team travelled to Union County Country Club for a triangular match with Anna-Jonesboro and Murphysboro. Murphysboro took 1st with a team score of 171 with Anna-Jonesboro trailing by three strokes at 174 and Chester behind at 211. A-J's Buckner lead the course with a 37 while Murphysboro's Novara lead the Devils at 38.

Chester continues to drop strokes, not only from Friday's 221 match against Marissa and Valmeyer at White Oak Golf Course, but also surpassing last year's team score of 226 at Union County. Both matches mark a clear improvement after leaving Crab Orchard the previous week with a team score of 247.

Senior Brett Barthol carded the third lowest score of the day with a 42, noting, "I was just hitting the ball well today." Barthol's round included two double-pars early in the round, six pars, and one birdie by chip-in on Hole #1.

Freshman starter Jonavan Richelman brought in a 50 for the Jackets, parring three of nine and showing himself to be a consistent player. Tommy Pfeiffer (Sr) completed his round with a 58, dropping 8 strokes from last year's match against A-J while Sam Higgerson (Sr) caught a bad stretch of double-pars early in the round, finishing with a 61.
