Local Fastpitch Teams Advance in ASA Nationals

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[An 11th inning sacrifice fly by Tim Herring scored the deciding run Friday night, pushing Elkville Fastpitch to a 6-5 marathon win over Jefferson City, Mo. SLAM at the ASA Class C Men's Fastpitch Nationals.

Elkville now moves to the semifina round, facing Wessel's Coors Light of Teutopolis at 1:15 Saturday. The local team is guaranteed of finishing no worse than fifth in the 29-team tourney and beat Reading, Pa. 2-1 earlier Friday.

Lance Bedar had four hits for Elkville as winning pitcher Les Wood fanned 16.

In the Class A Nationals, also being played at Rotary Park in Decatur, Pinckneyville (KC/Lee's Sports defeated Mascoutah, Il. (Pete's Blues) 7-3 late Friday night.

At 9:45 Saturday, KC/Lee's Sports plays Rice Creek Lightning from Wisconsin.
