DMS Softball Rallies Twice, Topples Nashville

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The Du Quoin (Middle School) Girls Softball team put together a season-high 17 hits Thursday against Nashville (Middle School).

As it turned out, they needed each of those 17 safeties.

Storming back from a 7-0 first inning deficit, the Lady Warriors held back the host team, 17-15.

Now 10-3, Du Quoin's Junior Southwestern Egyptian Conference (Jr. SWEC) hiked to 4-1. Saturday-weather allowing-DMS plays in the Du Quoin Jaycees Tournament.

"We have gotten ourselves back in a tie for first place in the conference," DMS coach Jason James said. "I am still not really happy with our defense. But was happy with how we fought back and hit the ball."

The Lady Warriors trailed 11-6 starting the sixth inning, but plated six runs to surge back in front. A three-run seventh then sealed things.

Hailey Stewart and Kate Toler each went 3-for-5 at the plate with Stewart knocking home three runs. Bri Green also had three hits, doubled twice and notched two RBI.

Katrina Whitley and Chelsea Huff poked two hits each. Aubrey Davis, Emily Asbury and Bailie Caldwell contributed hits.

Asbury (6-1) worked the first five innings in the pitchers circle.

Marisa Ferguson finished up to gain her second save.
