The roundtrippers by Justin Jackson and Aaron Hunter provided just enough cushion as the local squad topped Reading, Pa. (Hoffman Garage/Elite Coaches) 2-1 at Rotary Park in Decatur.

Elkville played Jefferson City, Mo. (Pepsi SLAM) late Friday afternoon in round two of the 29-team event.

Winning pitcher Les Wood scattered four hits and struck out 12 batters.

Another local squad-Pinckneyville (KC/Lee's Sports Falcons) opens play in the ASA Class A Nationals-also being held in Decatur-at 7 p.m. Friday. They'll play Pete's Blues from Mascoutah.
