CHESTER - Memorial Hospital in Chester now offers state-of-the-art Digital Mammography to assist in the early detection of breast cancer. Current guidelines suggest that all women 40 and over should have a mammogram every year and Digital Mammography is the gold standard in breast imaging.
Radiologist technician Heather Williamson stated that the image quality is amazing in comparison to the old analog equipment.
"This is our second week using the new digital mammography machine and we have had numerous patients," said Williamson.
The innovative G.E. Senographe Essential Digital Mammography at Memorial produces digital images on a computer screen, which helps Memorial's Radiologists make accurate diagnoses. With all digital mammography, breast compression is still a required part of the diagnostic process. However, with this technology, according to a hospital spokesman, patients will experience shorter exam times, fast results and fewer callbacks, all resulting in less anxiety and superior care to the patient.
Along with the state-of-the-art digital technology, Memorial Hospital now offers a beautiful new mammography screening room, designed with the patients' comfort and total privacy in mind.
"Providing Digital Mammography at Memorial is just another way that we constantly strive to provide the best in quality healthcare to our patients," said a hospital spokesman.
Physician referrals are required for all radiography at Memorial. Anyone interested in receiving their digital mammogram is asked to contact their family physician for a referral.
Radiologist Dr. Edward Feutz stated he is really thrilled to have the new state of the art machine.
"It is a great addition to the hospital. I am amazed at the quality and the resolution is superb," said Dr. Feutz. "It is much more accurate than film screen."
