Du Quoin Recycling Centers Being Abused
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Du Quoin Public Works Director Dale Spencer told the newspaper that there is widespread abuse of Du Quoin's three recycling centers--one on Rt. 51 south of Du Quoin, a second behind the Du Quoin High School and a third behind the Du Quoin Middle School. Spencer said he has found a 55 gallon drum, inoperable fans--even an electric hedge cutter in the recycling bin on Rt. 51 south of Du Quoin. He said that bin is for general public use. The two at the high school and middle school are to be used only by students, teachers and custodial personnel at those schools. The "Keeping It Green" program says you can recycle clear, green and brown glass; aluminum and tin, newspapers, cardboard, white paper, colored paper and magazines, and plastic bottles and jugs. You cannot dump light bulbs, ceramics, mirrors, window glass, dishware, junk mail, tissues, non paper inserts, waxed cardboard, cereal boxes, soda boxes, frozen juice cans, shortening cans, paint cans, aerosol cans, plastic jugs containing oil, antifreeze, chemicals or plastic toys.
