Three More Dist. 300 Retirements
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The Du Quoin Board of Education Thursday will be given notice of three planned retirements in Du Quoin Community Unit District 300.
Mrs. Pat Karnes has given notice of her intent to retire at the end of the 2010-2011 school year.
Instructors Gary Brock and Janice Wilbanks have given notice of their intent to retire at the end of the 2011-2012 school year.
Karnes is a Du Quoin Middle School science instructor. Brock has been the district's technology specialist and Wilbanks has been an elementary reading instructor.
Committing to early retirement allows teachers to benefit from a retirement stipend if they meet both the age and years of service tests.
The board will also approve the list of fall volunteers as submitted by athletic directors.
The board of education meets at 6:30 p.m. with the following agenda under consideration:
-- The board will consider approval of the annual agreement with John A. Logan College for dual credit and student enrollment in college and career success programs.
-- Parents Jesse and Jackie Gomes have made a written request tot he board pertaining to their child being able to participate in Middle School band as a home-schooled student.
-- The board will hear a presentation of the 2009-2010 school year budget.
-- The board will engage in a discussion regarding a time line for a new Du Quoin High School and other construction considerations, including an update on approval of a 10-year safety survey.
The meetings are held in the media center between the middle school and elementary school offices.
