Narrow Loss Ends Bid for Perfect Season

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ While their bid to bring Perry County its first-ever Southern Illinois Swim League (SISL) regular season championship fell a bit short, Du Quoin's Swimming Indians enjoyed another record-setting effort at Marion Thursday night.

The host Marlins won the meet, 360-319, ending Du Quoin's bid for a perfect league record at 6-1.

Saturday, the Swim Tribe returns to Marion for the "Swim-Your-Own-Age" Invitational Meet.

Next Saturday, Du Quoin hits the road for Mt. Vernon and the SISL Championships.

Ten more team relay and/or individual records were shattered by the Indians, who won a total of 77 races at Marion. Complete results of the Marion dual meet-and the invitational meet Saturday-will appear on Monday's page.

The new standards are:

--11-12 Boys 50m Backstroke; New Record :38.55 William Galik. Old Record :38.63 Patrick Tolliver 1989.

--11-12 Boys 50m Butterfly; Trevor Jones improved his existing record to :38.11

--13-14 Boys 50m Freestyle; John Galik improved his existimg record to :28.20.

--13-14 Boys 100m Freestyle; New Record 1:05.20 John Galik. Old Record 1:06.12 Nick Hirsch 2005.

--13-14 100m Individual Medley; New Record 1:14.97 John Galik. Old Record 1:15.27 Derek Green 1982.

--7-8 Girls 100m Medley Relay; New Record 1:39.67 (Maddison Dorsey, Tori Ehlers, Olivia Cravens, Rachel Gomes). Old Record 1:41.82 by these same girls in 2009.

--11-12 Boys 200m Freestyle Relay; New Record 2:16.92 (Cody Bailey, Matthew Galik, William Galik, Trevor Jones). Old Record was 2:18.62 set in 1989.

--11-12 Boys 200m Medley Relay; New Record 2:32.59 (William Galik, Matthew Galik, Cody Bailey, Trevor Jones). Old Record 2:37.65 by these same boys earlier in 2009.

--13-14 Boys 200m Freestyle Relay; New Record 2:03.22 (John Galik, Collin Dorsey, Thomas Hamlin, Jerry Kuhnert). Old Record 2:06.32 (Caleb Harsy, John Galik, Caseton Luthy, Thomas Hamlin) 2008.
