</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ Governor Pat Quinn has announced that six southern Illinois counties- Franklin, Gallatin, Jackson, Randolph, Saline and Williamson- are covered by a federal disaster declaration that will allow local governments and electric cooperatives to recoup up to 75 percent of their response and recovery costs from the May 8 storm.

The federal disaster declaration does not address assistance for people whose homes or businesses were damaged or destroyed by the storm.

Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) assessment teams the storm damaged 560 homes, leaving 191 of them uninhabitable. Of those homes 69 were destroyed. Recovery and repair costs for local governments and electric cooperatives is estimated at more than $26 million.
