Men's Fastpitch Softball: Elkville, KC/Lee's Win Three Each at Kelso
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ Local entries Elkville Fastpitch and Pinckneyville KC/Lee's Sports Falcons both notched three victories this past weekend, sharing seventh place at the 25th Annual Kelso, Mo. Klassic.
Elkville was 3-3 in the event while KC/Lee's Sports went 3-2.
A third local team, Southern Illinois Pete's Blues, won once in three games and placed fifth.
Friday night, Nathan Hunter's eighth inning RBI triple provided the lone run as Elkville posted a 1-0 win over Belleville Stallions.
Les Wood tossed a three-hitter with five strikeouts. Hunter's hit was one of only three by Elkvile.
Also Friday, KC/Lee's Sports edged past Altamont Home Center 4-3 with a run in the seventh inning.
Mark Radake whiffed 10 batters and scattered five hits. At the plate, Ricky Kasban had a pair of safeties.
Saturday morning, Pete's Blues edged by Elkville 2-1 despite the five-hitter twirled by Wood. Barry Maynor's first inning single accounted for the lone Elkville tally.
Defending champion Vandalia (Guaranteed Air Freight) blanked KC/Lee's 2-0 in the second game Saturday morning, forcing KC/Lee's into the elimination bracket. An 11-2 rout of Teutopolis KC followed as Radake gained the pitching win.
KC/Lee's then needed eight innings to oust Villa Grove (Log Cabin Inn), winning 4-3 on Eric Saunders walk-off solo home run.
Elkville lost 8-6 against Kelso, Mo. Fastpitch before bouncing back to eliminate Altamont Home Center 13-4 in five innings. Bryant Hale earned the pitching win, giving four hits and four runs-all in the opening inning-while striking out six.
Drew Porter belted a two-run homer with Maynor, A. Hunter and Shawn Hunter all recording two hits.
Justin Jackson went 4-for-4 against Kelso.
In a game that ended just before 2 a.m. Sunday, Elkville stayed alive with a 13-8 win over Oklahoma Seminole of Anadarko, Ok. S. Hunter had a three-run homer with Maynor and Jackson each smacking three hits. A. Hunter had two hits. Maynor knocked in three runs as Hale and Wood combined for the pitching win.
Sunday-with play delayed by more than hour by rain-Elkville lost a 9-6 decision to St. Louis Invaders. A. Hunter homered with Porter adding two more hits. Bryar Funk had a two-run triple.
KC/Lee's, despite two doubles and three hits from Clay McDonnough, lost 5-0 to Nokomis Bud Light in its final game.
Nokomis rallied all the way back to finish second in the event.
