Girls Summer Softball: Du Quoin Team 3-1 at Trenton
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ Du Quoin High School's summer softball team won three of four games at the Trenton Tournament, falling in the first round of Sunday's single elimination championship bracket play.
Now 8-4-2, the Lady Tribe was scheduled to host Benton in a 5 p.m. doubleheader Monday.
"All in all we played fairly well over the weekend," Du Quoin coach Jason James said. "We played good defense and at times really started to hit the ball."
Friday night, Du Quoin blanked the St. Louis Lady Hawks 4-0 as Chelsea Hill tossed a four-hitter with 12 strikeouts.
Kelsey Toler, Kelsey Tuthill and Hill all enjoyed two-hit games at the plate. Magen Edwards, Heather Cavins, Hill and Tuthill provided RBI.
Du Quoin then used a seven-run third inning to rally past Swansea Force as Saturday play began.
Hadley Marek led the offense with three RBI. Cavins and Edwards each had two RBI.
Hill was the winning hurler. She combined with Michaela Brown on a three-hitter.
In a 6-1 win over Alton Force, Hill whiffed three and scattered four hits. Tuthill and Ashley Hess each smacked two hits. Other safeties came off the bats of Toler, Tuthill, Jessica Hirsch, Hill, Megi Jones, Carley Hill and Curry Emling.
Sunday morning, Red Bud's Rage jumped to an early lead and held on for a 4-2 win over top-seeded Du Quoin.
Brown (1-2) handled the pitching chores, giving six hits before Hill entered in the third.
Toler, Emling and Marek all had two hits with Hill and Emling providing RBI.
"We put ourselves in an early hole and could not dig our way out," said James. "There's still a lot we need to work on but we are improving and really starting to understand the game."
